About Us

Hamilton Metalworks is run by Hannah & Guy Meurice. They both appreciate classic cars, and have spent many happy miles adventuring in their old Land Rover and numerous evenings out in their MG Midget. Guy has been a ‘Car Guy’ ever since he was young. “I remember loving the film The Italian Job” and watching it any chance I got.

The scene with the Miura driving through the Alps to a soundtrack of Matt Monroe really called to me, even as a young child. The Minis though, they really spoke to me. They epitomised the whole attitude of the film - the scrappy upstarts punching well above their weight. I was hooked!”

Guy was one of those children who pointed out cars when he saw them, and always greeted a classic Mini with a smile, a point and a shout of “A Mini!”. To be honest, Guy is still one of those people (and sometimes Hannah can’t help herself joining in either!) Everyone knew Guy loved cars, and Minis, and so he was often bought related gifts.

“Being into Minis, I learned everything I could about them. The differences between each year of manufacture, the engine sizes, different casting codes for the heads. I didn’t even own one and I knew all this stuff, so when someone would buy me something with a Mini on it I would easily spot that it wasn’t actually a Mini! I wasn’t ungrateful, and never said anything, but it always stood out to me.”

Hannah and Guy sat down together one night. Hannah’s experience in, print design, e-commerce & marketing was combined with Guy’s obsessive observations to produce Hamilton Metalworks. Focussed on designing and creating beautiful, personalised, eco-friendly, and accurate gifts for car enthusiasts!

A little GT40 card sat atop a real GT40

When you design for people who have a passion for something, you have to at least be as passionate as they are. You have to really care about what you’re doing. It simply won’t do to just chuck some clip art of a racing car on something and call it a day. You have to get the details right, because it’s the details that people really care about. It’s what sets apart someone with a vague interest in something from someone with a real love for it.

Hannah says “The feedback has been amazing, you can tell that people really understand what we’re doing. One of the first designs we did was of a Mkii GT40, and we got a photo from one of our first customers with the card sat atop their own GT40 - it matched perfectly. This person had spent years building this car, and was overjoyed that they had been able to find the perfect card that matched! That’s why the details have to be spot on, if you’ve spent that much time creating something you’re going to know straight away if it’s not right!”

One thing you’re bound to be asking is - does Guy still have the Mini? The answer is yes, in a way. “It’s been sat for years now in the garage looking very sorry for itself. It will definitely live again, I know exactly how I want it to look, I’ve been dreaming about it for a long long time!
